Zuni Craftsmanship
The Navajo Indians first introduced "silver-smithing" to the Zuni people in the late 1800s. The first Zuni silver jewelry very much resembled the heavy Navajo jewelry with large stones. However, in the early 1900s, the Zuni began crafting their jewelry with a new type of work called channel and inlay. This type of work is now a distinctive trademark of many Zuni Indians. Then, they began grouping small stones to decorate jewelry. Each stone is set separately with a silver bezel arranged in a cluster which is known as needlepoint and petit point. Each stone is precisely cut to a uniform size to arrange the cluster, making Zuni jewelry not only beautiful, but also unique! Gaspeite Stone
Gaspeite is a beautiful stone that ranges in color from light green to apple green to neon green. Some variations may contain brown patches which give this stone a distinctive character. Gaspeite, which wasn't discovered until 1966, is a relatively rare mineral found around nickel sulfide deposits. It is named after the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec, Canada, which is the place this stone was originally found.
Gaspeite has no known folklore although the Aborigine's used it to bring good fortune. It is thought to be a stone that reduces stress as well as aid with heart, gallbladder, and lung problems. It is also said to bring spirituality into every day.

Dry Creek Turquoise
Dry Creek Turquoise, known by the Native Americans as "Sacred Buffalo Turquoise," is truly one of a kind! The Dry Creek turquoise mine is located on the Shoshone Indian Reservation near Battle Mountain, Nevada. Even though this turquoise was discovered in 1993, it wasn't until 1996 that it began to be used in jewelry. Most turquoise gets its color from the heavy metals in the ground where the stones form. However, Dry Creek Turquoise forms where there are no heavy metals present, which is a very rare occurrence. The lack of any color consistency makes this stone distinctive and unique from other forms of turquoise. As of yet, no other vein of Dry Creek Turquoise has been discovered anywhere else. When this current vein runs out, there will be no more. Any jewelry made with Dry Creek Turquoise is extremely rare, and as a result, can be fairly costly. If you are interested in purchasing jewelry pieces made with Dry Creek Turquoise, head to our online store (www.bowlinonline.com) where we have a few items featured there.
